The Summer Solstice, also called Litha or Midsummer, is one of the most significant turning points in the wheel of the year. It marks the longest day and the shortest night, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky.
From ancient times, people have honoured this moment with gatherings, rituals, feasting, and music, recognising it as the peak of life’s energy and abundance.
Across cultures, sacred sites like Stonehenge in England or the pyramids of Egypt were aligned to the Solstice sun, showing just how deeply humanity has revered this day. It is a festival of light, growth and prosperity, when the earth overflows with fertility and the energy of the sun can be harnessed for renewal.
